PUTTING NATURE FIRST

About Us

Dunkes Estate started off as a dream for a married German couple, Ralf and Sabine Dunkes. They visited the Garden Route and fell in love with the area, and so, they decided to build their Organic estate.

Sabine Dunkes competes internationally in horse riding, European award winner, and international judge for vaulting. Ralf and Sabine are very passionate about horse riding, and they are incorporating their knowledge and expertise in George. The current breed that they own is Holsteiner horses, which are the oldest warmblood breed in Germany.

Facilities

The estate is off-grid and involves permaculture and environmentally friendly methods as well as products ensuring the least harm to all of nature around us. There are animals on the estate being rescued cows, fallow deer, beautiful geese, and free range chickens, with more to be added in the future, including birds of prey and peacocks. We’re constantly increasing the elements that attract more of nature as a whole, improving the ecosystem and soil.

Our tunnel and permaculture garden are used to grow herbs, vegetables, and fruit. All are grown using organic methods and products, then used in meal baskets available for purchase. We offer freshly made jams, chutneys, preserves, and more.  You can browse our store.

The equestrian facilities offered aim to be the highest level of quality for riders of all ages. The stables have been built with spacious boxes of 4m x 4m, giving each horse ample space. The estate offers the following facilities:

17 Stables, Wash Bay, Tack Room, Paddocks, Grazing Fields, and Arena with coconut fibre topping. The lunge ring is 24m in diameter with the same filling.

The estate also boasts large paddocks with beautiful scenic views of the mountains and the ocean. Being off-grid on regularly planting new trees on the property, the estate contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions, improving the environment through solar, planting more trees with a total of 40kVa of solar power.
